Rashid National Museum

(The museum was the house of a person named (Arab Kli), and it is one of the most prominent historical houses in the city of Rashid, and its construction dates back to the first half of the 18th century AD)

Who built it?

It was built by Hussein Arab Kelli, who was the governor of Rashid at that time. This unique historical house was converted into the Rashid National Museum to house artifacts that chronicle the city's struggles and heroic deeds.

When was it transformed into the Rashid National Museum?

The house was chosen to be converted into a museum due to its large size and prime location.

The historical and archaeological value of the museum

The museum was established to commemorate the victory of the people of Rashid over the English Fraser Campaign in 1807 AD

Who inaugurated it?

It was inaugurated by the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser in 1959, and the day of the inauguration (September 19) became a national holiday for the Beheira Governorate.

The Exhibits

The museum displays 700 artifacts, most notably

Gold and bronze coins dating from the Umayyad and Ottoman periods

A collection of Qur'ans and pottery

Pictures depicting the battles of the people of Rosetta against the Fraser Campaign and the French

It also includes a

replica of the Rosetta Stone (a gift from the British Museum)

A collection of edged weapons

firearms, and Ottoman swords

In addition to historical documents such as

the document of the British evacuation and the marriage certificate of the French General Menou

The Architectural Design

The house is distinguished by its unique Islamic architecture and dynamic design, and consists of four floors.

The Ground Floor

Includes a canopy and cross-vaulted ceilings, in addition to a water cistern room with a wooden roof.

The First Floor

Was designated for men (the selamlik), and contains rooms with windows featuring iron grilles topped by wooden latticework skylights.

The second floor

It contains a hall with a wooden portico at its center, a bathroom with a shallow, glass-enclosed dome and a marble basin, and next to it, the bedroom.

The third (summer) floor

It includes a small room and a bathroom.

The facades

The house is unique in having four independent facades overlooking different streets, which distinguishes it from other existing historical houses in Rashid.
