As the importance of the Elba Mountain reserves, and given the importance of nature reserves in Egypt, we decided not to write about the entire reserve in one article, due to its length and importance. So, whoever wants to increase their knowledge and general awareness, let them read the links included here in this article under the different headings.

An Introduction
The Gebel Elba Nature Reserve is one of the most important and largest nature reserves in Egypt. Located in the southeastern corner of Egypt, it covers an area of 35,600 square kilometers, representing 3.6% of Egypt's total area. Situated between latitudes 22° and 23°30' and longitudes 34.5° and 37°, the reserve encompasses numerous natural, human, and cultural resources. These include wildlife, medicinal and economically important plants, local tribes, cultures, ancient artifacts and drawings, as well as geological and mineral resources and freshwater springs. The Red Sea also enriches the reserve with significant marine resources such as coral reefs, seagrass beds, and rare marine life. Furthermore, several Red Sea islands lie within the reserve's boundaries, providing habitat for sea turtles, numerous species of rare resident and resident birds, and various types of mangrove trees of considerable environmental and economic value.
The Elba Protected Area is considered a rugged region
With the exception of the coastal plain, which ranges in width from 15 km to 25 km, and reaches elevations of approximately 1500 m above sea level in the central areas such as Jabal Mashbah and Jabal Abu Hadid, the area generally slopes eastward towards the sea. It is intersected by numerous main valleys, such as Wadi Hawdheen and Wadi Al-Dheeb, which flow towards the Red Sea. The main valleys generally conform to the prevailing structural trend in the region, and geological formations also control many of the secondary valleys, particularly in areas of basement rock.
To the Details;
The Location
The geographical location of Elba Protected Area in the southeastern corner of the Eastern Desert in Egypt has created an arid to semi-arid climate within the reserve. Geographically, it lies at the edge of the tropical zone in Africa, the last tropical region on the continent. Elba Protected Area, by its very location, represents a meeting point and blending of several biogeographical environments in North Africa. It represents a link between the tropical environment in the south and the temperate climate in the north. The Red Sea connects the tropical climate of the Indian Ocean to the south with the temperate climate of the Mediterranean to the north. Elba Protected Area also represents a natural extension of the Ethiopian Highlands from south to north.
The Geological and Topographical Structure of the Reserve Area
The geological and topographical structure of the reserve area significantly influences the diversity of data available and the distribution of plants within the reserve, particularly the distribution of acacia species. The topography of the area divides it into four distinct ecological zones, each characterized by a specific topography and environment. These zones are:
1. Coastal salt flat environment
2. Coastal plain environment
3. Desert plain environment
4. Mountain slope environment
5. Red Sea islands environment
6. Shallow water environment
7. Salt flats and saline areas environment
The Diverse Environments of Gebel Elba Protected Area
Abraq Area
The Abraq area extends between longitudes 30 and 34 degrees west, reaching 100 meters into the Red Sea to the east, and between longitudes 23 and 50 degrees north and 23 degrees south.
Wadi Abu Sa'afan
This valley is of historical value within the reserve, containing ancient Pharaonic artifacts, including a gate carved into the rocks of the Abu Sa'afah Mountains, known as the Water Gate.
Al-Dheeb Area
This area extends between longitudes 35 degrees west and 36 degrees east, and latitudes 23 degrees north and 22 degrees south. It is a wide, long riverbed extending for more than 100 kilometers south from Sudan, crossing the Egyptian-Sudanese border in the western part of the Elba Mountain Range. It flows northeast until it empties into the Red Sea coast to the east, forming a large fan-shaped estuary.
Elba Area
This area extends between longitudes 36 degrees west, reaching 100 meters into the sea, and latitudes 22 and 45 degrees north and 22 degrees south. Elba Mountain is located in the far southeastern part of Egypt.
The mountainous regions and valleys of Gebel Elba Protected Area represent the igneous and metamorphic massif of the southern Eastern Desert and are characterized by generally rugged terrain, relatively high elevations, and numerous valleys.
