Section image

The Nationalism

This refers to love of one's country, clearly indicating feelings of affection and attachment to the homeland and the emotional responses that arise from them.

The Definitions of Citizenship

The First Definition

The citizenship is the relationship between an individual and the state to which they owe allegiance, and in return, they are entitled to its protection. Citizenship means enjoying freedom and the responsibilities that accompany it. Citizens enjoy certain rights, duties, and responsibilities that are denied to foreigners and non-citizens residing in the state, or are granted to them only partially.

The Second Definition

The nationality is the highest form of nationality. This broader term refers to various relationships between an individual and a state, which do not necessarily grant political rights, but include other privileges, particularly protection abroad. It is the term used in international law to denote all persons whom a state has the right to protect. Nationality is also used to denote the relationship of entities other than individuals to the state; companies, ships, and aircraft, for example, possess nationality.

The Third Definition

The plural of homeland is homelands: it is the place where a person resides, whether or not they were born there.

The Fourth Definition

The Legal Dimension of the Concept of Citizenship

In law, the term citizenship denotes a connection between an individual and a state. Under international law, citizenship is synonymous with nationality, although they may have different meanings according to national law. A person who does not possess citizenship in any country is stateless.

The concept of citizenship is a social, legal, and political idea that has significantly contributed to the development of human society and the advancement of the state towards equality and justice. This is achieved by strengthening the role of both democracy and transparency in building and developing the state, through citizen participation in governance and guaranteeing their rights and duties.

In democratic countries, every adult citizen enjoys the rights of citizenship. This is not the case in non-democratic countries, where citizenship is merely a form of affiliation. Those who hold citizenship do not necessarily possess political rights, if such rights are even available to anyone other than the rulers, and perhaps only to the absolute ruler.
